How to extract lyrics from a song

  1. 01

    Upload the song

MP3, WAV, M4A or any audio up to 8 minutes. The file is compressed in your browser before upload.

  2. 02

    Let the lyrics transcriber listen

Every sung word gets a timestamp; words are grouped into lines at phrase endings and breaths. Takes about 15 seconds.

  3. 03

    Check, then export

Play the song and watch each line light up as it is sung. Download LRC, SRT or TXT, or open the lyrics in the lyric video maker.

Why a lyrics transcriber is harder than speech-to-text

Singing breaks most of the assumptions speech recognition relies on. Vowels are stretched over several beats, consonants disappear into the music, words are bent to fit a melody, and there is a full band playing underneath. Generic dictation tools either return nothing or a confident paragraph of nonsense. This lyrics transcriber uses a recognizer that copes with music in the background and returns timing for every individual word, which is what makes synced lyrics possible.

Those word timings are then grouped into lyric lines the way a person would write them: a new line at the end of a phrase, after a breath of more than about three quarters of a second, or when a line gets too long to read. Commas only split a line once it already has some length, so short call-and-response phrases like "Oh, here we go" stay together. The result reads like a lyric sheet rather than a wall of text, and every line keeps the exact time its first word is sung.

You usually don't need to isolate the vocals

In our tests on finished pop and folk mixes, the lyrics transcriber picked out every sung word without running a vocal remover first, as the Mandarin sample below shows. Very dense mixes, heavily distorted vocals, screamed metal or extremely fast rap can still trip it up. For those, separate the vocal with the AI vocal remover, then transcribe the vocal stem — the timing stays identical because the stem is the same length as the song.

LRC, SRT and TXT: which lyrics file you need

An LRC file is the standard format for synced lyrics: each line starts with a timestamp like [00:24.44]. Music players such as foobar2000, MusicBee, Poweramp and many car stereos read it when the file sits next to the MP3 with the same name, and karaoke apps import it directly. An SRT file contains the same lines as numbered subtitles with start and end times, which video editors understand — use it to put lyrics on a YouTube upload or a Reel. TXT is the plain lyric sheet for liner notes, Bandcamp pages or sending to a distributor's lyrics form.

From song to lyric video in one click

When the lyrics look right, the button under the result opens them in the lyric video maker with every line already timed. Load the same song there, choose a style, and export an MP4 — no manual syncing. If you are still writing, the AI lyrics generator and AI song generator can take you from idea to finished track first.

One note on rights: transcribe songs you wrote, songs you have permission to use, or songs for personal study. Publishing someone else's lyrics may require a licence even if you typed them yourself.

Sample: a Mandarin song made with our AI music generator

This 66-second track was created with our own AI song generator. The lyrics transcriber processed the full mix — vocals and band together — in about 13 seconds.

Morning Walk (Mandarin, full mix)

Folk-pop with acoustic guitar and soft drums; no vocal isolation was used.

What the lyrics transcriber returned

Timestamps and lines exactly as exported in the LRC file. The English column is our translation for readers, not part of the output.

Getting the best result from the lyrics transcriber

  • Use the highest-quality file you have; a 320 kbps MP3 or WAV beats a re-recorded phone clip.
  • Choose the song's language instead of automatic detection for short songs or mixed-language lyrics.
  • For screamed, heavily distorted or very fast vocals, run the AI vocal remover first and transcribe the vocal stem.
  • Fix ad-libs and repeated choruses by hand — the transcript is a draft for you to polish.
  • Keep the LRC next to the audio file with the same file name so players pick it up automatically.
  • Songs longer than 8 minutes: trim the intro or split the file.

Lyrics transcriber FAQ

Can I extract lyrics from a song without removing the music?

Usually, yes. The lyrics transcriber works on full mixes, as the sample shows. For very dense or distorted vocals, isolate the vocal with the AI vocal remover first.

What is an LRC file?

A plain-text lyrics file where each line begins with a [minutes:seconds.hundredths] timestamp. Music players and karaoke apps use it to scroll lyrics in time with the song.

Which languages are supported?

Eighteen in total — among them English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Hindi and Arabic. Leave the language on automatic or pick it for short and bilingual songs.

How much does it cost?

Songs are billed by length: each started five-minute block is one credit, which means almost every single track costs exactly one. Starter credits come with a new account, and a failed job gives its credit back.

How long can the song be?

Up to 8 minutes per file in the lyrics transcriber. For longer live recordings, use the audio to text tool, which accepts 30 minutes.

Can I make a lyric video from the result?

Yes. Press 'Turn these lyrics into a lyric video' and the lyrics open in the lyric video maker with all timings in place.

Is it legal to transcribe song lyrics?

Transcribing for personal use or for songs you own is fine. Publishing another artist's lyrics usually needs permission from the rights holder.
