Hum to song: from a hummed idea to a song you can share

Almost everyone has had a melody stuck in their head that never went anywhere because they could not play an instrument, write it down or record a band. Hum to song closes that gap. The melody you hum becomes the reference the music model builds on, so the finished track starts from your idea rather than from a random prompt. You supply the tune and the feeling; the model supplies chords, drums, bass, a singer and a mix.

Under the hood this hum to song tool uploads your recording as a short audio reference, asks the model to arrange a new song around it in the genre you chose, and generates two takes at once. Each take has a different arrangement and vocal performance, which is useful because the first version is not always the best fit for a melody. In our tests a 13-second hum came back as two songs of about 1.5 minutes with vocals, and the instrumental option returned tracks of a little over two minutes.

Lyrics: written for you, by you, or none

Words are where many melody-to-song tools fall short. If you leave the lyrics to us, a language model first writes a short song from your description — two verses and a chorus, five to nine words per line — and the singer performs those words over your melody. If you already have lines, paste them in with [Verse] and [Chorus] tags and they are sung as written. Choose instrumental and the hum to song generator skips vocals entirely, which turns it into a hum to beat tool for videos, games or freestyle practice.

Describing the song in plain words works better than stacking genre tags. "A bittersweet song about the last summer before college" gives the lyric writer something concrete; "pop, sad, guitar, female" does not. The genre buttons already set the production style and the vocal buttons set the singer, so your description can focus on the story.

How closely does it follow my melody?

Your hum leads the song: its phrasing, mood and tempo carry into the arrangement. Like a singer interpreting a demo, the model can ornament notes, stretch a phrase to fit the lyrics or add a new section after your idea runs out. If you need a note-for-note copy of a tune, hum it slowly and clearly, keep to one key, and avoid long pauses; a steady four-bar phrase gives the clearest result.

Searching for the song you are humming?

Some people type hum to song when they want the opposite: to find the name of an existing song from a hummed tune. That is song recognition, and it needs a different kind of database. Our song identifier recognizes recorded music from a clip, a TikTok or an Instagram Reel; to name a song from humming alone, Google's hum-to-search in the Google app is the right tool. This page is for creating something new from your melody.

Once you have a version you love, write more songs with the AI song generator, give it artwork with the album cover generator, or polish the loudness for release with AI mastering.

How to hum for the best hum to song result

  • Record in a quiet room with the phone or laptop mic about a hand's width from your mouth.
  • Hum one clear phrase that repeats — the melody of a chorus works better than a whole song.
  • Keep a steady tempo; tapping your foot while you hum helps more than you would expect.
  • Use "la", "da" or "mm" consistently so every note has a clear start.
  • Aim for 10–30 seconds. Under 5 seconds is too short to build on; over 60 is trimmed.
  • Describe the story, not the genre: the genre and vocal buttons already set the sound.

Hum to song troubleshooting

The melody drifted away from my hum
Hum slower and more clearly, stay in one key, and trim silence from the start. Try the other version too — the two takes interpret the melody differently.
The lyrics do not fit the mood
Add a concrete idea to the description (who, where, what happened) or switch to My own lyrics and paste the lines you want.
I only wanted a beat
Choose Instrumental. The hum then becomes the lead melody of a track with no vocals.

Hum to song FAQ

Can AI really turn humming into a song?

Yes. The hum is uploaded as an audio reference, and the model arranges a complete song around it — instruments, vocals and lyrics — in the genre you pick. You get two versions per hum.

How long should my hum be for hum to song?

Between 5 and 60 seconds; 10–30 seconds of one clear phrase works best. Longer recordings are trimmed to the first minute.

Do I need to write lyrics?

No. Leave it on AI writes lyrics and a short song is written from your description. You can also paste your own lyrics or choose instrumental for no vocals.

How much does hum to song cost?

Each generation costs 10 credits and returns two songs. New accounts start with free credits, and failed generations are refunded automatically.

Can I use the songs commercially?

Songs you generate on a paid plan can be used in videos, streams and releases. Make sure the melody you hum is your own and not someone else's song.

Is this the same as Google hum to search?

No. Google's hum to search names an existing song from your humming. This hum to song generator creates a brand-new song from your melody.

Does hum to song work in any language?

Humming has no language, and the AI writes lyrics in the language of your description, so describing the song in Spanish or Japanese gets lyrics in that language.

Hum it. Hear it as a song.

Record a melody, pick a genre, and get two finished versions in about a minute.
