Voice-to-instrument conversion and audio-to-MIDI both begin with a recording, but they hand you different materials. One produces an instrument-sounding audio take. The other estimates note events for an editor or virtual instrument. Choose based on what you intend to change after the first result.

Where the workflow changes
A MIDI file has no sound on its own
MIDI describes musical events. A piano plugin, synthesizer or sampler turns those events into sound. That extra step is a benefit when you want control of the instrument, but it can surprise someone who expected a finished WAV file. Direct conversion gives you audio immediately at the cost of less note-by-note flexibility.
Your slide may become several notes
A singer can move continuously between pitches. A transcription system has to decide where notes start and end, so vibrato and slides can become short extra notes. Listen to the MIDI played back slowly and inspect sustained phrases. Deleting an accidental note can matter more than choosing a more expensive piano sound.
Plan for the revision you are most likely to make
If a collaborator might ask for the chorus in a different key or with a new final note, an editable representation is valuable. If the melody is settled and the remaining work is mixing it under a voiceover, a rendered take may be sufficient. You can keep both an audio reference and a corrected MIDI version in a serious production session.

Try this before committing
Transcribe and convert the same held-note phrase. Count extra MIDI notes, then listen to the converted audio for wobble and breath artifacts. Keep the output that suits the next editing step.
Compare the cost of finishing
A MIDI workflow may also require a suitable instrument plugin. Compare the whole path to a usable result, including transcription and sound generation, against the displayed conversion cost.
Questions worth asking
Can I change the instrument after making MIDI?
Yes. Assign another instrument to the note data. You may need to adjust note range, articulation and velocity to suit the new sound.
Does MIDI preserve every detail of a sung take?
Not automatically. Slides, vibrato and note boundaries require interpretation, and the result may need editing.
Which route is better for sheet music?
Transcription is the closer starting point because notation needs discrete notes. Check rhythm, pitches and rests before sharing a score.
